The Arona Council has ordered the sealing and suspension of works on an agricultural plot in Parque La Reina after confirming that the land-terracing operations far exceeded the conditions allowed under the site’s licence.

The action follows complaints from nearby residents, first reported by Diario de Avisos, who warned that the large-scale earth movements were causing damage to surrounding developments.

A municipal inspection has now verified that the project substantially surpasses the authorised parameters.

Licence limit: 3 metres — Actual works: up to 10 metres

The original 2018 licence permitted terracing and agricultural preparation with a maximum height of three metres. However, the latest technical assessments indicate that excavations and earthworks reached close to ten metres, more than triple what was authorised.

Previous sealing order overturned

This is not the first time the site has been sealed. An earlier order by the council was successfully appealed by the company, after a court ruled that the municipal measurements were unreliable because they relied on a crane as a reference point, an approach the judge found methodologically flawed.

New checks put the plot out of bounds again

With updated technical measurements now confirming that the works once again exceed the legal limits, the council has reinstated the sealing order.

At the same time, the authority is considering requiring the company to restore the land to its original state and is assessing further potential responsibilities.
