The Canary Islands recorded the highest accumulated rainfall in Spain yesterday, Saturday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The El Paso weather station on La Palma topped the national list with 40.6 litres per square metre registered by 5pm.

Rainfall rankings

Several other Canarian stations featured prominently among Spain’s wettest locations:

  • San Andrés y Sauces: 28.8 l/m²
  • Llano de Los Loros (La Laguna): 27.2 l/m²
  • Roque de los Muchachos (La Palma): 24.8 l/m²
  • Izaña: 20 l/m²
  • La Palma Airport: 19.1 l/m²

The first non-Canarian entries appeared much further down the list, including Abadiño-Urkiola (13.8) in Vizcaya, Posada de Valdeón (13.2) in León, Tresviso (12.6) in Cantabria, and Pajares-Valgrande (Asturias).

Aemet has extended yellow weather warnings, adding Tenerife to the areas expecting periods of more intense rainfall.

Canary Islands also lead in high temperatures

In contrast to the rain, the archipelago also dominated Spain’s highest temperatures on Saturday. La Dama–Vallehermoso in La Gomera recorded the national peak at 25.9°C.

Other warm spots included:

  • Maspalomas–Centro Insular de Turismo: 25.2°C
  • La Aldea–Tasarte: 25.2°C
  • Yaiza–Playa Blanca: 24.9°C
  • Lanzarote Airport & Maspalomas: 24.7°C
  • Tenerife South Airport: 24.6°C
  • Puerto de Mogán: 24.5°C
  • Pájara: 24.2°C
  • La Aldea: 24°C

The unusual combination of heavy rainfall and above-average temperatures highlights another day of contrasting weather across the islands as autumn fronts continue to interact with warm Atlantic air.
