A man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of stealing guests’ belongings from rooms at tourist accommodation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Police were called to the property on the night of 22nd July after a guest reported that a bag had disappeared from her locked room. She had left her belongings inside after checking in but discovered the bag was missing when she returned.

Other guests later reported seeing a similar bag in a room occupied by the suspected thieves. The victim got it back, but several items had been removed.

The couple reportedly left the accommodation quickly after learning that police had been called. Officers found and arrested the woman shortly afterwards, while the man was detained later during the investigation.

Police believe the pair had previously stayed in several rooms at the property and knew the entry codes. Investigators found that the codes had not been changed after guests checked out.

Both suspects are reported to have previous police records. Officers are now investigating whether they may be linked to other thefts reported at the same accommodation involving a similar method.
