The Guardia Civil has arrested the owner of a local bar in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found on 27th April on the beach of Los Enanos, in the San Andrés area of Arucas.
The suspect, identified as David S, is the proprietor of the Arenales café-bar and was detained at his home in the Las Torres neighbourhood yesterday morning (Tuesday).
Authorities had launched a murder investigation immediately after the discovery of the body, which showed clear signs of a violent death. Although the woman's identity was initially withheld, she has since been named as Triana A, a 42-year-old Colombian national.
Following the arrest, officers searched the suspect’s home and later escorted him to his business premises, where forensic teams carried out an extensive investigation throughout the day. Police are working to determine whether the crime may have taken place within the bar itself.
Crime Scene Investigated
Investigators from the Guardia Civil’s Criminalistics and Homicide Units meticulously combed through the bar on Tuesday in search of biological evidence or other materials that could confirm it as the crime scene. Officers in full forensic gear were seen entering and exiting the premises, collecting sealed bags of potential evidence.
The operation drew significant attention from local residents, many of whom gathered near the police cordon in a mix of concern and disbelief. The Arenales bar, located at the intersection of Calle Castrillo and Calle Ángel Guimerá, is well-known in the area for its long-standing presence.
Some neighbours described the suspect as a friendly and approachable figure, though others acknowledged that rumours had circulated about his private conduct. Several residents mentioned that while the bar closed to the public at night, private gatherings reportedly continued behind closed doors. However, there is no confirmed evidence linking these events to any criminal activity or exploitation.
Legal Proceedings Underway
The investigation remains active, and further arrests have not been ruled out. The case is currently being handled by Investigating Court No. 1 of Arucas, though jurisdiction could eventually shift to a court in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Due to the sensitive nature of the inquiry, the proceedings are under a secrecy order (secreto de sumario), and no additional official details have been released.
The suspect is expected to appear before a judge within the 72-hour legal deadline, which expires on Thursday.
