Fuerteventura is significantly expanding its air connectivity with Germany from November, with a total of 22 weekly flights from Hamburg and Stuttgart during the winter season. According to the island’s Tourism Minister, Marlene Figueroa, 14 flights per week will depart from Hamburg, starting November 1st, and 8 flights from Stuttgart, starting November 2nd.
Figueroa hailed this development as a "historic milestone" in the island’s strategy to enhance direct connectivity from key markets. She emphasised that daily, competitively priced flights from Hamburg will improve Fuerteventura's position as a leading tourist destination, while also boosting the local economy.
Fuerteventura is currently the sixth most popular destination among German tourists, as reported by the tour operator TUI. The island has seen a 7.4% increase in tourists arriving from German airports during the first half of 2024, compared to the previous year, indicating strong growth potential.
The new flights from Hamburg will be operated by Eurowings, an airline owned by the Lufthansa Group specialising in direct flights to holiday destinations, and Condor, Germany’s third-largest airline focused on leisure travel. Both airlines are increasing capacity to meet rising demand, which had previously forced travellers to use alternative airports like Bremen and Hannover. TUIfly will handle the Stuttgart route.
