The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has warned that unsettled weather will continue across the Canary Islands over the coming days, with cloudy skies, periods of rain and strong winds affecting several islands.

This follows the passage of Storm Emilia, which brought heavy rainfall and more than 2,000 weather-related incidents across the archipelago. Conditions are now expected to remain changeable rather than returning quickly to settled winter sunshine.

According to the European forecast model (ECMWF), today, Thursday, is likely to bring the heaviest rainfall to Gran Canaria, making it the island most affected this week.

Thursday: Wind and Showers

No major weather warnings are expected but cloudy intervals will continue. Northern areas of the mountainous islands are likely to see occasional light rain, with more significant rainfall in Gran Canaria.

Temperatures will see little change, although it may be slightly warmer at higher altitudes. Northeasterly winds will be moderate to strong in exposed areas. In the central peaks of Tenerife, strong northerly winds with very strong gusts are likely, easing after midday.

Friday: Mostly Cloudy, Isolated Showers

On Friday, conditions remain generally unsettled. Skies will range from partly cloudy to overcast, with occasional light rain, mainly in northern mid-altitude areas. Rain is unlikely in southern parts of the mountainous islands.

Minimum temperatures may dip slightly inland, while daytime highs could rise a little in north-facing mid-level areas. Winds will be mostly light from the north, turning northeasterly and strengthening towards the end of the day.

Saturday: Persistent Rain in the North (main image)

By Saturday, cloudy skies will dominate northern areas of the higher islands, with light to moderate rain that may be persistent in mid-level zones. Elsewhere, there will be cloudy intervals with occasional light showers.

Temperatures are expected to remain steady or fall slightly, particularly inland. Northeasterly winds will be moderate, becoming strong at times on southeast and northwest-facing slopes.

Residents and visitors are advised to keep up to date with local forecasts, especially if travelling through mountain areas or planning outdoor activities later this week.
