AEMET extends heat warnings across the Canary Islands as heatwave persists

AEMET has extended its yellow and orange weather warnings across the Canary Islands as the current heatwave continues, with temperatures expected to remain exceptionally high until at least Thursday.
All of the islands remain under heat alerts, with some inland areas forecast to approach or even exceed 40°C, while tropical nights are expected to continue, with temperatures in some locations staying above 25°C after dark.
The Canary Islands Government has also expanded its high wildfire risk alert to cover Tenerife and the western islands plus Gran Canaria, while maintaining a heat alert across the archipelago.
Heatwave Set to Continue
Forecasters say the current spell of extreme heat is likely to continue through Thursday, with the possibility that weather warnings could be updated again depending on how conditions develop.
Authorities continue to advise residents and visitors to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest part of the day, and take extra care of vulnerable people, including young children, older adults and those with underlying health conditions.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria remains under an orange warning on Wednesday from 11:00am to 8:00pm.
For Thursday, the island moves to a yellow warning covering the east, south and west between 11:00am and 8:00pm, with temperatures reaching 34°C, particularly between 600 and 900 metres around the Tirajana Basin.
Fuerteventura
The island remains under an orange warning on Wednesday from 11:00am to 8:00pm.
Temperatures are expected to reach 37°C, especially inland, across the south and on eastern slopes. Overnight temperatures could remain close to 25°C in some areas.
Lanzarote
An orange warning is also in force across Lanzarote on Wednesday between 11:00am and 8:00pm.
Highs of 37°C are expected inland and in southern and eastern parts of the island, while overnight temperatures could remain around 25°C.
Tenerife
Tenerife continues under a yellow warning on Wednesday from 11:00am to 8:00pm.
The warning covers the metropolitan area, as well as the east, south and west of the island, where temperatures are expected to reach 36°C.
Higher temperatures are possible in the western, southern and south-eastern mid-altitude areas, while overnight temperatures may remain between 25°C and 27°C.
La Gomera
A yellow warning remains in force across the island on Wednesday between 11:00am and 8:00pm.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 36°C, particularly in western, southern and south-eastern mid-altitude areas, with very warm overnight conditions continuing.
La Palma
A yellow warning covers the summit areas and western side of the island from 11:00am to 8:00pm on Wednesday.
Highs of 36°C are expected, with temperatures locally exceeding this in western, southern and south-eastern mid-altitude areas. Overnight temperatures may remain between 25°C and 27°C.
El Hierro
The entire island is under a yellow warning on Wednesday between 11:00am and 8:00pm.
Maximum temperatures of 36°C are forecast, particularly across western, southern and south-eastern mid-altitude areas, where tropical overnight temperatures are also expected.
