A new millionaire in the Canary Islands after Fridays Euromillions draw

The winning lottery numbers for the EuroMillions draw on Friday (August 19th), were 2, 9, 13, 19, and 38, and the star numbers were 2 and 6, for an estimated jackpot of 87 million euros. No one matched all five numbers and the two numbers, meaning that it is a rollover on Tuesday; however, someone in the Canary Islands did win a million euros!

The correct ticket for the El Millón draw, which is called the Millionaire Maker in the UK, has landed here in the islands, for a ticket purchased at the Receiver Office number 44,320 in Marmolejos in Gran Canaria.

The winning ticket number is GJW 82565 and the holder has 90 days to collect the winning prize of a million euros, which is until Thursday 17th November 2022.

DID YOU KNOW?
This was the 1,556 Euromillions draw, after the first one was held in Paris on February 13th 2004, with France, Spain and the United Kingdom as participants. A French player won 15 million euros. Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland later joined.

The biggest win in the history of Euromillions was just last month, when a winner from the UK scooped a massive 230 million euros, on July 19th. A figure that places it as the largest prize in a draw on the European continent.

To play EuroMillions, five main numbers from 1 to 50 and two stars from 1 to 12 must be selected. During the draw, 5 numbers and 2 stars are randomly drawn from two machines with drums containing numbered balls. The machine that contains the 50 numbers is called the Stresa, and the other, that contains the 12 stars, is the Paquerette.

It costs €2.50 for each block filled in a EuroMillions draw, so the price increases proportionally if multiple blocks are played or more than one draw is selected.

El Millón is an additional game that is included in each Euromillions ticket sold in Spain. For each line of EuroMillions numbers purchased, a unique code is printed on the ticket that is entered into a raffle for a chance to win a €1 million prize.

Prizes are collected in two different ways depending on the amount won:
- Prizes up to €2,000 can be claimed at any Lottery ticket sales point.

- Prizes over €2,000 can be claimed at any Lottery and Betting point of sale, but winnings will be paid by bank transfer.

- Prizes over €40,000 are taxed at 20%.
