The Canary Islands are set for clearer weather this Thursday, as the storm warnings have ended and the calima is clearing returning temperatures to the norm for the time of year at around 30°C.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow warning for high temperatures in the southern and western inland areas of Gran Canaria, and strong gusts of wind are expected in the southeast and northwest extremes of the more mountainous islands.
The northern coasts of Lanzarote and Tenerife will see partly cloudy skies, becoming mostly cloudy by the end of the day. The rest of the archipelago will enjoy clear or slightly cloudy skies. Temperatures will remain relatively stable, with inland areas of Gran Canaria expected to reach up to 34°C, and interior areas of Fuerteventura experiencing temperatures between 32-34°C.
Northeast winds will blow moderately, with occasional strong gusts in the southeast and northwest of the more mountainous islands, and light breezes are expected along the southwest coasts of these islands.
There will still be rough seas in the west and southeast of the islands, where winds from the north or northeast will reach Force 5 or 6, temporarily hitting Force 7 offshore. In the north, expect moderate seas with winds from the north or northeast at Force 3 to 5. A swell from the north will cause waves between 1 and 2 metres high, while the south will experience a milder swell of about a metre.
Today’s forecast by island:
Partly cloudy in low-lying northern and northeastern areas below 400-600 metres, clearing in the north during the day but becoming cloudy again in the northeast by evening. The rest of the island will be mostly clear. A light calima may affect southern areas overnight but will clear during the day.
Temperatures will remain stable, with possible slight increases in higher areas. The south and west of the island could see temperatures between 32-34°C.
