The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has reported that they registered an earthquake of 3.1 magnitude at 4.59am this morning (Saturday) in the sea between Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
The tremor was recorded at a depth of 20 kilometres at latitude 27.7503 and longitude -14.973. So far there is no data on whether it was felt by the coastal populations of the two islands.
Although it is common for earthquakes to be recorded, the most common seismic movements are located between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, so this is more unusual as it was between the southeast of Gran Canaria and the south of Fuerteventura.
