Over 8,150 runners will bid farewell to 2023 in the San Silvestre road race in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this New Years Eve, raising thousands for charity. Starting at 4:00pm for the youngest participants, and an hour later for the adults, the runners will complete a six-kilometre course, transforming the city into a sea of yellow to welcome in the new year in a unique way.
Runners of all kinds, including veterans, beginners, friends, families, and even accompanied pets, will cover the route, dressing the city in yellow and distinctively celebrating the new year, as highlighted by the organisers in a statement on Saturday.
More than 310 registered volunteers will assist in ensuring the safety and control of the event, thanks to the collaboration of the volunteer group "Grupito 33," security forces, emergency services, and the medical team.
The race will start from Calle León y Castillo, in front of Parque Doramas (corner with Calle Alejandro Hidalgo), heading north on the same street and entering the main street of Triana, Francisco Gurié, Munguía, Avenida Rafael Cabrera, setting the pace on Avenida Marítima, and then returning to Calle León y Castillo to cross the finish line of this grand sporting celebration.
The entire proceeds from the San Silvestre LPGC will go to social projects of five charities: CEAR, Apaelp, Médicos del Mundo, Aldeas Infantiles, and Pequeño Valiente.
The event organized by Top Time Eventos with the collaboration of Club Trican, and is promoted by the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Municipal Sports Institute, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Insular Institute of Sports, and the Government of the Canary Islands.
