A hot, humid and rainy day forecast in the Canary Islands today

The heat and haze of the light calima at the weekend, are giving way to cloudy skies and the possibility of light showers during this afternoon, particularly in the eastern islands, according to the forecast by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), with maximum temperatures ranging between 24 and 28 degrees across the Canary Islands.

Satellite pictures show a band of rain converging across Fuerteventura and Lanzarote where more intense downfalls are expected later this afternoon. Here is the forecast for all the islands:

TENERIFE:
Cloudy in most parts of the island with some clearings later in the day. Some occasional and generally light showers are not ruled out this afternoon mainly on the eastern slope of the island. Generally, only light winds from the west up to 14kmh with breezes on southwest coasts, however strong gusts up to 90kmh are forecast at Teide later in the day.
Temperatures: Maximum 28°C, minimum 22°C.

GRAN CANARIA:
Generally cloudy across the island today with some clearings in the afternoon. Strong chance of occasional and generally weak rainfall during the second half of the day. Temperatures will drop slightly, although they will remain higher in the southwestern areas. Variable wind from the west between light and moderate in strength, and breezes on coasts.
Temperatures: Maximum 26°C, minimum 21°C.

LANZAROTE:
Cloudy skies with medium and high cloud cover, and intervals of low clouds on the north and west coasts. Occasional weak or moderate rainfall is forecast in the second half of the day, which are expected to be showers, but they could be accompanied by an isolated storm. Again only a light wind from the west with breezes on the coasts, and occasionally strong gusts are expected, especially when associated with showers.
Temperatures: Maximum 26°C, minimum 21°C.

FUERTEVENTURA:
Fuerteventura is expected to be the island most affected by rain today, with strong showers and isolated storms later this afternoon. It will be cloudy and humid across most of the island with light winds from the west and coastal breezes, occasionally strong gusts linked to the rain are not ruled out.
Temperatures: Maximum 24°C, minimum 20°C.
