The Fuerteventura Cabildo has finally given authorization for the La Oliva Rally to take place on December 17th and 18th on pre-existing tracks in four sections within the municipality. After several delays and applications, they finally submitted favourable sectorial reports, and the Cabildo gave its approval for the sporting event organized by the Escudería Maxo Sports Club.
This is the thirty-second time the Rally will run through La Oliva, in four sections: La Piconera-Morro Francisco; Villaverde-Cerco Viejo (Villaverde); the La Oliva Circuit Section, and La Oliva Show Section. The rally should have been held in the first week of November but it did not have the relevant permits for the layout of the route proposed by the organizers of the event.
The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret López, said: “we are committed to holding sporting events of all kinds, including motor racing events, as long as they are respectful of the environment and the archaeological heritage of our island, and in this sense, provided that all the required precautions are met, we will support the event so that it does not fall into oblivion.”
For her part, the Vice-President, Lola García, points out that “in Fuerteventura, we must advocate for combining motorsports with the protection of our natural resources, the land, and biodiversity. For this reason, the compatibility of the sports event with the environment in which it is carried out has been assessed, always going through its environmental evaluation first, and demanding a series of requirements to be fulfilled for its correct development".
The Minister of Sports, Claudio Gutiérrez, said “despite all the difficulties that it entails, finally the joint work of all the different departments has made it possible for us to have all the permissions from the Cabildo so that this event emblematic sports event can be held, which has had to be suspended on other occasions due to various circumstances. The commitment is to start working at the beginning of the year so that next year it can be staged again, without the complications that have arisen this year.”
