Customer leaves 4,000 euro tip in a restaurant after reading complaint online

A Catalan businessman has tipped waiters in a Marbella restaurant more than 4,000 euros after reading the criticism from another client online who was asked to leave a tip after dining at the premises.

Raúl Castañeda, a lawyer from Barcelona, was angered by the man’s post so booked the same table for him and six of his friends on August 22nd, after reading about the complaint from someone called Enrique on Instagram, where the diner had put a copy of the bill online saying that he was unhappy with the fact that he was asked for a tip despite spending 4,098 euros on a meal, of which 372 euros was a service charge.

When Castañeda saw the complaint, he travelled specifically from Barcelona to Malaga, then to the restaurant in Marbella to go and eat at the same restaurant. However, when it came to paying his bill, he left the exact amount that Enrique had spent on his meal as a tip, which was 4,098 euros.

This meant that the lawyer spent 8,179 euros in total on the meal for his friends, and the 15 members of staff of the restaurant each took home an extra 270 euros each just from his tip.

Since going to the restaurant the lawyer has written on his Instagram profile: “In reference to the client who complained. The same amount that you paid for your meal I left as a tip to the same waiters that you pissed off. By the way, fantastic service everyone, thankyou".
