Covid update: Canaries passes 40,000 infections, with 219 new cases, and 4 deaths
The Ministry of Health has notified of 219 new cases of coronavirus today, meaning that the total number of infections has now reached 40,059 since the pandemic began. Active cases have dropped below 6,000 to 5,947 with 84 Covid patients admitted to ICU and 269 in wards.
In the last 24 hours, five deaths have been reported: two in Tenerife, two in Gran Canaria and one in Lanzarote, although the latter will be added to statistics once it is validated.
The deceased are a 76-year-old man and an 85-year-old woman from Tenerife; and two women in Gran Canaria aged 80 and 86, both linked to family outbreaks. All of them were already admitted to hospital and suffered from previous pathologies.
Of the new cases 83 are in Gran Canaria, 73 in Tenerife, 29 in Lanzarote, 23 in Fuerteventura, 7 in El Hierro and 4 in La Palma, which were detected from 3,279 PCR tests carried out yesterday with a positivity rate of 6.67%. So far a total of 861,164 PCR tests have been carried out in the Islands since the pandemic began, and now 125,071 vaccine doses have been administered with 51,572 people having received both.
