Air Force ends aerial search for a cayuco in Canary waters without success

The Air Force plane that has been trying to locate the occupants of a cayuco heading to the Canary Islands yesterday has concluded its search without any success, as reported by Maritime Rescue.

The aircraft, D4 of the Search and Rescue Service (SAR), has focused its tracking and search 96.5 kilometres south of Gran Canaria.

Maritime Rescue sources have announced that three ships sailing through the area, the "Corona", "Peace Victoria" and "Freight Margie", have been alerted to communicate their location, in case the cayuco is spotted or located.

The search was activated after receiving an alert on Saturday from the Guardia Civil Regional Coordination Centre, who contacted about a boat, with an undetermined number of people on board, was sailing towards the archipelago. They were alerted by members of the occupants family back in Africa, who have not heard from those on the boat for several days.
