Woman arrested in Mogán for violent attack on 82-year-old
The Guardia Civil has arrested a woman in Mogán for violently robbing an 82-year-old foreign resident in a busy commercial and leisure area of the municipality.
The incident took place on 9th February at around 12.30 pm, when the victim was about to get into her car. According to investigators, the attacker approached from behind and yanked the woman’s handbag from her shoulder, leading to a violent struggle.
The force of the attack caused the victim to fall heavily to the ground, suffering serious injuries, including a broken tooth, nose bleed, bruising, cuts to both knees and a suspected dislocated shoulder. The suspect then grabbed cash, a mobile phone and personal documents that had fallen during the assault, before fleeing by jumping over a nearby wall.
An off-duty officer witnessed the attack and immediately alerted colleagues, allowing patrols to reach the area quickly. While officers assisted the injured woman, the investigation moved quickly, thanks to CCTV footage from the commercial area.
The images allowed police to clearly identify the suspect, a local woman with previous convictions for property crimes and domestic violence. Detectives described the identification as “conclusive” following a detailed review of the video evidence.
Given the victim’s age and medical condition, officers used the SIGO Movilidad system (a mobile tool that allows the Guardia Civil to file official reports from a victim’s home) to take her statement without requiring her to travel, ensuring she received prompt support and avoided any further physical strain.
Once the suspect was identified, officers found her address on a central street in Mogán and set up surveillance. She was arrested the following morning, on 10th February, and has since been placed at the disposal of the Court of First Instance No. 1 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
