The Spanish Met Office (AEMET) has issued yellow alerts for strong winds for Tenerife and the western islands and Gran Canaria, effective from 6:00pm on Wednesday.
They will bring moderate northeasterly winds which are expected to strengthen in the evening, with some very strong gusts in low-lying exposed areas.
The forecast shows mostly clear skies for today, with cloud cover increasing over the northern coasts of the mountainous islands as the day progresses. Temperatures are expected to remain relatively steady, with some slight decreases.
Sea conditions will also be challenging, with easterly to northeasterly winds reaching force 4 or 5, occasionally increasing to force 6 in some areas. The sea state will range from rough to very rough, with a north or northwest swell producing waves up to four metres high.
