Wednesday Weather: Slight haze and northerly winds expected in the Canary Islands

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), a light haze is set to affect the eastern Canary Islands starting from this afternoon (Wednesday), primarily impacting Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Despite this, the general weather across the islands will be mostly clear, with some early morning cloud cover expected in northern regions.

At sea, northeasterly winds will range between Force 4 and 5, increasing to Force 6 offshore in the southeast and northwest by the morning. There will be a north-westerly swell of 1 to 2 metres, with the possibility of strong swells in some areas.

Island-by-Island Forecast for Wednesday:

Lanzarote

  • The island will experience low cloud intervals in the morning, clearing later in the day. A light haze will increase in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain stable, with a slight increase in maximums.
  • Wind: Moderate northeasterly.
  • Temperature: Minimum 21°C, Maximum 26°C.

Fuerteventura

  • Clear skies are expected, with some morning clouds in the northern half. A light haze will intensify later in the day. Temperatures will remain steady, except for a slight rise in the west.
  • Wind: Moderate northeasterly.
  • Temperature: Minimum 20°C, Maximum 25°C.

Gran Canaria

  • In the north, cloudy skies will clear by midday, while the rest of the island will see partly cloudy to clear conditions. A light haze will develop at high altitudes later in the day. Temperatures will see little change, with a slight rise in midland and peak areas facing west.
  • Wind: Occasionally strong northeasterly winds in low southeastern and northwestern areas. Light southerly winds at the peaks.
  • Temperature: Minimum 22°C, Maximum 26°C.

Tenerife

  • Cloudy intervals are forecast for the north and east, with partly cloudy skies elsewhere. Temperatures will remain stable, with a slight decrease in some eastern and high-altitude areas.
  • Wind: Strong northeasterly winds in the southeast and northwest lowlands, light northwesterly winds in the central peaks.
  • Temperature: Minimum 21°C, Maximum 26°C.

Overall, the mid-week forecast for the Canary Islands suggests relatively calm conditions, aside from the developing haze and moderate winds, providing ideal weather for most outdoor activities. However, those near coastal areas should take note of the rougher sea conditions.
