The Canary Islands are set for a day of strong winds and warm temperatures this Wednesday, with some parts of the archipelago expected to reach highs of up to 30°C, according to the latest forecast from the Spanish Met Office, AEMET.
Skies across the islands will generally remain clear or partly cloudy, although stronger northeast winds will continue throughout the day, bringing occasional very strong gusts in exposed areas, particularly during the afternoon.
AEMET has also extended yellow weather warnings across several islands due to the unsettled conditions and rough seas expected over the next few days. Authorities are advising residents and tourists to take extra care in coastal areas and when driving in exposed locations due to the strong gusts and rough sea conditions expected throughout the day.
Coastal conditions are forecast to worsen, with northeast winds reaching force 4 to 5 at sea, locally increasing to force 6 or 7 in some areas. The Atlantic swell from the north is expected to reach between one and two metres, occasionally rising to between two and three metres, creating rough conditions for small boats and coastal activities.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged across the islands, although inland areas may see slight drops. However, several locations could still see temperatures climbing to around 30°C, especially in southern and southeastern parts of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Island Forecasts for Wednesday 9th June 2026:
Tenerife
Northern parts of the island below 1,000 metres will see cloudy intervals with some sunny spells during the middle of the day. Elsewhere, conditions will remain mostly clear. Strong northeast winds are expected in southeast and western coastal areas, with occasional powerful gusts possible around Anaga and southern midlands.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 25°C.
Gran Canaria
Cloud is expected in the north during the morning, with a slight chance of light drizzle in mid-altitude areas early in the day. The rest of the island will stay mostly sunny. Temperatures in southeastern midlands could locally hit 30°C. Strong winds are also expected along southeast and west-facing coasts.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 24°C.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Both islands will begin the day with more cloud cover before brighter conditions return later. Strong northeast winds are forecast inland and along exposed western and southern coastal areas, with isolated very strong gusts possible, especially in Jandía and southeastern Lanzarote.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 25°C.
