A tourist has been videoed in the iconic Jameos del Agua pool in Lanzarote, one of the island’s most protected cultural spaces, after claiming she slipped and landed in the water.
Footage of the incident shows the woman fully clothed in the water as security staff rush towards her, while her friends were just chatting at the side of the pool.
The incident happened on Wednesday, and the woman claims it was accidental, although the two people by the pool don’t seem too alarmed by her being in the water if she had actually slipped.
The pool is part of a volcanic cave system designed by renowned Lanzarote artist César Manrique, and is one of the most visited and strictly protected sites on the island.
Despite clear signage and repeated warnings, this isn’t the first time a tourist has ended up in the water. In June 2023, one was recorded entering the pool and posing for photographs, despite the ban.
