The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) is forecasting partly cloudy skies across much of the Canary Islands today, Thursday, with little change in temperatures and the chance of light rain in some areas.

At sea, northeasterly winds of force 4 to 6 are expected, bringing rough to strong swells around all islands. A ground swell from the north and northwest could create waves of 2 to 4 metres, so caution is advised for those planning coastal or maritime activities.

Island by island forecast:

LANZAROTE
Partly cloudy in the north and west, becoming mostly clear in the afternoon. Elsewhere, skies will remain partly cloudy. Temperatures steady. Moderate northeasterly winds, with strong gusts possible in inland areas of the south, and very strong gusts developing later in the day.
Temperature range: minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 29°C.

FUERTEVENTURA
Generally partly cloudy, with more cloud in the west during the early morning and evening. Temperatures unchanged. Moderate northeasterly winds, becoming strong at times south of Jandía in the afternoon.
Temperature range: minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 28°C.

GRAN CANARIA
Northern areas below 1,000–1,100m: cloudy intervals, more persistent in the morning and evening, with the chance of light rain, especially in mid-altitude areas. Clearer in the south. Temperatures are stable, with slightly higher minimums inland. Moderate northeasterly winds, strengthening on southeast and far-west slopes, with very strong gusts possible later. Light breezes are expected on the southwest coasts.
Temperature range: minimum of 23°C and a maximum of 28°C.

TENERIFE
Northern areas below 1,200–1,300m: mostly cloudy in the morning and evening, particularly in the northeast, with possible light showers in the afternoon. Elsewhere, partly cloudy or clear. Temperatures unchanged. Moderate northeasterly winds, stronger at times in the southeast and west, with very strong gusts possible in the afternoon. Coastal breezes along the west.
Temperature range: minimum of 23°C and a maximum of 30°C.

Tourist summary:

  • Best bets for sunshine: The southern resorts of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura should stay largely sunny and warm.
  • Where showers are most likely: Northern Tenerife and Gran Canaria, especially in mid-altitude areas, may see some light rain.
  • Beachgoers: Temperatures remain perfect for swimming and sunbathing, but rough seas and strong swells (2–4m) mean extra caution is advised if entering the ocean. Stick to supervised beaches with lifeguards and respect flag warnings.
