The South Tenerife Hospital Incorporates two new specialty consultations

The South Tenerife Hospital, part of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital Complex, has expanded its range of consultations by adding two new specialities: Paediatrics and Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, where professionals in these fields have already started consultations. Additionally, the coverage of Allergology consultations has been extended to operate every weekday.

This expansion aims to prevent residents of this basic health zone from having to travel to the north of the island to receive care in these fields at La Candelaria Hospital. The Paediatrics department has initiated consultations in Neuropediatrics, and various subspecialties will gradually be incorporated to provide broader coverage to the paediatric population in the southern area.

The South Tenerife Hospital continues to enhance its portfolio of specialities to cater to its reference population, exceeding 220,000 individuals with individual health cards, over 20% of the island’s population.

In 2023, specialists conducted a total of 122,039 consultations, performed 3,227 surgical procedures, and conducted 80,502 radiological tests. Furthermore, 67,029 emergencies were attended to, including 55,503 for adults and 11,526 for paediatrics.

Medical Services Offered

The hospital offers outpatient consultations for fourteen medical and surgical specialities, including Cardiology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Dermatology, Digestive System, Endocrinology, Nutrition, and Diabetic Education.

Other services include Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, General and Digestive Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Urology, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology, as well as Mental Health with areas for child and adolescent psychiatry and adults.

The centre conducts functional tests for the diagnosis and monitoring of pathologies in the population of the south of Tenerife and has a versatile Day Hospital and adult and paediatric Emergency Services. There is also a radiology area with a CT scan, laboratory, and nuclear magnetic resonance.

Additionally, the hospital offers ambulatory major surgery, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, as well as hospitalization for patients requiring inpatient care.

Recently, the hospital upgraded its CT scan and magnetic resonance imaging equipment and expanded and improved the laboratory service, which now operates 24 hours a day. Two new operating rooms were put into operation, in addition to the existing two, and the Laboratory and Radiology staff were reinforced with more personnel to increase activity and hours of operation.
