The Canarian DJ who defused tense situation during Beach Volleyball final at the Olympics

The Beach Volleyball final at the Paris Olympics took a dramatic turn on Friday, but it wasn’t the fierce competition between Brazil and Canada that stole the show. Instead, it was the calming influence of Canarian DJ Tony Rojas who played a crucial role in easing tensions and ensuring the game continued with its spirit intact.

As the match reached a boiling point with players from both teams getting into a heated argument, the referee had to step in to separate them. The atmosphere was electric, and it seemed as though the final might turn into a memorable showdown for all the wrong reasons. But then, in an inspiring and masterful move, DJ Tony Rojas played the iconic John Lennon anthem “Imagine” in the stadium.

The effect was immediate and almost magical. The tension melted away as players from both sides paused, took in the soothing strains of Lennon’s message of peace, and responded with laughter and applause. The crowd, too, was visibly relieved, turning a tense moment into a harmonious celebration.

Rojas, from Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, has become an influential figure in the world of sports events, was hosting the beach volleyball at his fifth Olympics. His eclectic mix of Canarian beats and international tunes has not only enlivened numerous global competitions but has also woven a unique thread through the fabric of major sporting events.

In a recent interview with the EFE News Agency, Rojas expressed his pride in his role, reflecting on his journey from the nightclub scene of Gran Canaria in the early nineties to becoming a sought-after DJ for international events.

"Beach volleyball began here in the Canaries in the early 90s on the beaches of Gran Canaria," he said, highlighting the sport's origins here in the Canary Islands, “and we shared it with the world. Without us, they wouldn’t have what they have today.”

Rojas likens his work to that of a film composer, crafting the perfect soundtrack to elevate the mood of the events he’s part of. With his music resonating across various arenas from Formula 1 circuits to marathons and the Olympics, he has truly established himself as a master of musical ambience.

As the Brazilians celebrated their gold medal victory and the Canadians left with their heads held high, it was clear that DJ Tony Rojas had added a unique and harmonious note to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
