Temperatures of 30°C and haze heading towards the Canary Islands

The Meteored expert, Samuel Biener, said earlier today (Wednesday) that the Canary Islands could experience the effects of a "large tongue of Saharan dust" causing "anomalous heat" across the archipelago.

He is referring to the arrival of several fronts that will bring rains and troughs of low pressures to Portugal and the west of Spain, which the Canary Islands will catch the tail of.

"The presence of these storms, including Olivia, will produce a very warm and anomalous air mass for this time of year further south which could affect the Canary Islands."

Meanwhile, meteorologist José Manuel Viñas points out that "this Friday a subtropical air mass will bring temperatures of 30°C to areas of the southern half of Spain, and similarly, in some areas of the Canary Islands, that value will also be exceeded."

According to the forecasts, a new trough will descend over western Europe and push the warm air mass and the haze towards the centre of the continent and down towards the Canary Islands where it will be necessary to monitor air quality, which could reach unfavourable levels in the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.”
