The Canary Islands are forecast to have clear to slightly cloudy skies today (Thursday), significant calima in some areas, and a slight drop in temperatures, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Southeast winds, occasionally strong in the southwest and northeast slopes, are expected to subside by the afternoon.
The islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote have already been engulfed in Saharan dust as of Wednesday, with images from Tuineje, Fuerteventura, showing a hazy sky dominated by calima.
Weather Overview for Thursday
AEMET predicts clear skies with possible calima becoming more pronounced in the southern and eastern slopes of Tenerife and the western islands. Temperatures are expected to remain largely stable, with a slight drop in some areas. Winds from the southeast, occasionally strong in certain regions, will calm down by the afternoon.
Marine Conditions
The sea will experience easterly and northeasterly winds of Force 3 to 5, temporarily reaching 6, causing moderate to rough seas. In the west and north of the islands, lighter winds of force 1 to 2 will result in calmer waters. Northwesterly swells with waves between 1 and 3 metres are anticipated.
