Scottish tourist wanted by the police for headbutt has fled the island

The Scottish holidaymaker who was arrested at Lanzarote airport last Friday, March 21st, after being disruptive on a plane as it landed and then subsequently headbutted a policeman, has reportedly left the island after being ‘wrongly’ released from custody.

After the incident, the Scottish aggressor was also taken to the Molina Orosa hospital as he was suffering from an anxiety attack and was to be guarded at all times by two Guard Civil officers.

However, allegedly, upon arriving at the hospital, the agents left, not due to carelessness as many people have pointed out but due to a direct order as the spokesperson for the Guardia Civil, José Couce claimed in an interview. “As far as we know, someone decided to release him that same afternoon, but we don't know who authorised it,” he said.

All this happened on Friday, as the following day (Saturday), the injured agent was summoned to testify before the judge in a quick trial the next morning (Sunday), as a witness and as the victim.

Couce added: “The surprise came the next day when the guard arrived at the courthouse with his lawyer, and they realised that the detainee wasn’t there and that his whereabouts were unknown.”

Lancelot Television has reported that as soon as he left the hospital, the Scottish tourist bought a ticket and first thing on Saturday morning he jumped on a plane to London and left Lanzarote.

Because he is no longer in the national territory, and in these cases, it is very difficult to locate him, it will also be very difficult to charge him and get compensation for the agent who has been on medical leave since the day of the headbutt.
