The calima and unusually high temperatures will continue across the Canary Islands today, Saturday, with several parts of the archipelago expected to exceed 30°C once again.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), warm and hazy conditions will persist alongside strong winds and occasional powerful gusts, particularly in exposed coastal and mountainous areas.
Although some northern and western coastlines may see periods of cloud, most of the islands are expected to remain dry, sunny and very warm throughout the day.
Rough seas across the archipelago
At sea, northerly winds of Force 3 to 5 are forecast throughout Canary waters, occasionally reaching Force 6 in some areas.
Sea conditions are expected to range from moderate to rough, with northwest swells of between one and two metres.
Island by island forecast for Saturday 23rd May 2026:
Tenerife
Tenerife will also see cloudy intervals along northern coastal areas during the morning and evening, while the rest of the island should remain mostly sunny with occasional high cloud.
Light calima is expected in mid-level and higher parts of the island, particularly inland and around the mountains.
Moderate northerly winds will affect most coastal areas, although stronger gusts are expected in exposed locations, including northwest and southeast slopes and the southern side of the Anaga area. Very strong gusts are possible at times, especially during the early morning.
In the central mountain areas, light southerly winds are expected initially before strengthening later in the day.
Temperatures will rise slightly or moderately away from the north coast, especially across inland areas and southern municipalities reaching 28°C.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria will remain partly cloudy along the north coast, especially during the morning and evening, while the rest of the island should enjoy largely clear skies with some high cloud.
The calima will mainly affect mid-altitude and higher areas, creating hazy conditions inland.
Moderate northerly winds will continue in lower coastal areas, occasionally becoming strong on northwest and southeast slopes. AEMET has also warned that isolated very strong gusts remain possible during the early hours.
In higher areas, winds are expected to gradually shift from northeast to east and southeast throughout the day.
Temperatures are expected to rise further across interior and southern parts of the island, where maximums of 30°C to 32°C are forecast. Coastal northern areas will remain slightly cooler.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote will see intervals of cloud mainly across northern and western parts of the island during the early morning and late evening, while the rest of the island is expected to stay mostly sunny with occasional high cloud.
The calima will remain noticeable throughout the day, creating hazy skies and reducing visibility at times. Moderate northerly winds are forecast, although these should ease slightly later in the day.
Temperatures will continue rising, particularly in inland southern areas where highs of between 30°C and 32°C are forecast.
Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is expected to experience very similar conditions, with cloudier skies early in the day across western areas before long sunny spells develop elsewhere.
The calima will continue affecting much of the island, especially inland, contributing to the hot and dry conditions. Moderate northerly winds will dominate, although stronger gusts are possible in southern areas around Jandía, particularly early and late in the day.
Southern and inland parts of the island could again see temperatures climb to 30°C or even 32°C. In general, temperatures are forecast to reach 28°C.
