Discover Gran Canaria's oceanfront Thalasso Spa this Summer

If you're looking for a different way to unwind this summer in the Canary Islands, there's an alternative to spending the day on the beach. Perched above the Atlantic between Puerto Rico and Amadores in southern Gran Canaria, the Gloria Palace Amadores Thalasso & Hotel is home to one of Europe's largest seawater thalassotherapy centres.

Covering 1,800 square metres, the wellness complex offers a seawater circuit featuring 29 hydrotherapy stations, as well as a sauna, Turkish bath, thermal pools and a range of spa treatments, all with panoramic ocean views.

Relaxation by the Atlantic

Set on the cliffs overlooking the coastline, the thalassotherapy centre combines the benefits of seawater therapy with spectacular views across the Atlantic Ocean.

Its signature attraction is the extensive seawater circuit, designed to promote relaxation and wellbeing through a combination of heated seawater pools, massage jets and thermal experiences.

Among the 29 hydrotherapy stations are:

  • Counter-current swimming areas
  • Swan-neck massage jets
  • Waterfalls
  • High-pressure massage jets
  • Microbubble loungers

Each station is designed to target different muscle groups and encourage relaxation.

Hot and Cold Therapy

The centre features a 326-cubic-metre fitness pool filled with seawater heated to 33°C, alongside two dynamic pools maintained at 16°C and 37°C, allowing visitors to alternate between hot and cold water—a popular feature of thermal spa circuits.

Facilities also include:

  • Sauna
  • Turkish bath
  • Thermal bath
  • Scottish shower
  • Kneipp therapy shower
  • Aquagym pool
  • An accessible main pool for guests with reduced mobility

The circuit is designed to stimulate circulation, ease muscle tension and provide a complete wellness experience.

Massages and Wellness Treatments

In addition to the seawater circuit, the centre has 28 private treatment rooms, offering a wide range of therapies including:

  • Relaxing massages
  • Therapeutic seawater baths
  • High-pressure hydrotherapy treatments
  • Ayurvedic therapies

According to the spa, some treatments are also aimed at helping guests suffering from rheumatic conditions, post-traumatic injuries and stress-related complaints.

Visitors should note that the spa is open only to guests aged 15 and over, while heat and water treatments are not recommended during pregnancy.

No Hotel Stay Required

One of the biggest attractions is that you don't need to be staying at the hotel to enjoy the facilities.

Several day pass options are available:

  • €50 for one adult
  • €89.95 for two adults
  • €109.95 for a family pass (two adults and one child aged 2–12)

For those interested only in the thalassotherapy circuit, admission costs €31, without the need to book additional treatments.

A Different Summer Experience

While southern Gran Canaria is famous for its beaches, promenades and sunshine, the Gloria Palace Amadores Thalasso offers a quieter way to relax without leaving the coast.

Opened in 2003 and designed by architect Luis López, the hotel and spa have become one of the island's best-known wellness destinations.

Whether you're a visitor looking for a break from sightseeing or a resident seeking a relaxing day out, the oceanfront thalassotherapy centre provides a refreshing alternative to the beach, combining seawater, wellness treatments and stunning Atlantic views in one unique setting.
