A popular restaurant in Gran Canaria has publicly called out a group of older diners who allegedly walked out without paying their €57.80 bill, by cheekily inviting them to return and “settle the account.”
El Timón de los Locos, located in the seafront neighbourhood of San Cristóbal in Las Palmas, shared the incident on Instagram after the group enjoyed what the restaurant described as a “very good lunch” before performing a simpa, the Spanish slang term for leaving without paying.
In a pointed but humorous post, the restaurant thanked the diners “for the example you gave to the younger generation,” adding: “Thank you for showing us that good manners don’t always come with age.” The message ended with a clear warning: “You were recorded.”
The restaurant also offered the diners a chance to put things right, saying that if it was “an oversight,” they were welcome to come back and “pay their bill.”
El Timón de los Locos concluded by stressing its commitment to fairness and transparency: “We will continue working with honesty, as always.”
