Renovation of Puerto del Rosario promenade is completed

The renovation of the Puerto del Rosario promenade has been completed, transforming one of the most emblematic public spaces in the capital of Fuerteventura.

The works, led by the Island Council’s Department of Tourism under councillor Marlene Figueroa, form part of the ‘Fuerte por Naturaleza’ Sustainable Tourism Plan in Destination (PSTD).

The €547,000 project has delivered a comprehensive upgrade of the seafront, improving safety, comfort and accessibility for pedestrians. Key improvements include the replacement of pavement, the installation of ergonomic benches and modern litter bins, as well as new landscaping.

Architectural barriers have been removed to ensure full accessibility, and existing structures such as pergolas and fencing around parking areas have been restored using sustainable, eco-conscious designs that respect both the natural and urban environment.

A Modern, Accessible Promenade

During the official handover of the completed works, Island President Lola García praised the investment as a key step in beautifying and reorganising the area for improved pedestrian use.

Tourism Councillor Marlene Figueroa highlighted the project as one of the most significant actions within the ‘Fuerte por Naturaleza’ strategy: “This modern, high-quality promenade revitalises a space frequented daily by both locals and visitors, bringing it in line with the standards Puerto del Rosario deserves.”

Puerto del Rosario’s mayor, David de Vera, also stressed the importance of inter-administrative coordination to keep improving the tourist appeal of the island’s municipalities, pointing to the seafront project as a strong example of this cooperation.

The inauguration was also attended by María Jesús de la Cruz, the Island Director of the General State Administration; Beatriz Calzada, President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas; and Antonio Castellano, Port Chief for Puerto del Rosario.

The project has been co-funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU recovery funds, as part of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
