The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has ordered the immediate withdrawal of three batches of a shower gel sold nationwide after detecting a potentially harmful bacterium.
The product affected is Kneipp Litsea Cubeba Lemon Shower Gel (200ml), manufactured by Kneipp GmbH in Germany.
Tests revealed the presence of Burkholderia cepacia, a microorganism that can pose an infection risk, particularly to people with underlying health conditions or weakened immune systems.
The batches being recalled are: 2506917, 2506918, and 2506919. Consumers who have purchased products from these batches are advised not to use them and to return them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.
The gel was distributed across Spain through pharmacies, parapharmacies, perfumeries, and online stores. Kneipp GmbH has already begun withdrawing affected products from retail outlets and recovering those sold to customers.
AEMPS has notified regional health authorities across Spain to ensure the recall is fully enforced and widely communicated.
Advice for consumers:
- Stop using the shower gel immediately if it matches the affected batches.
- Return the product to the shop or pharmacy where it was purchased.
Advice for retailers:
- Check current stock for the affected batch numbers.
- Remove affected units from sale and contact the manufacturer.
