The National Police have stumbled upon a substantial collection of ammunition, firearm parts, and materials for weapon manufacturing in an apartment that had been empty for the past year in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
The investigation began when the current owners of the property, which was previously rented out and used as a boarding house, entered the building to carry out renovation and cleaning tasks.
The building had been unoccupied and officially vacated for a year prior to their arrival, and during their preparations, the homeowners uncovered a significant amount of ammunition of various calibres, along with tools and components used for assembling firearms, and called the police.
Among the seized items police found cartridges of .22, .38 Special, .38 Long, and hunting calibres, alongside tools used for cartridge manufacturing and parts of firearms, including a revolver magazine and grip.
Following the discovery, National Police officers promptly notified the authorities and initiated an investigation. Their inquiries led to the arrest of the former manager of the boarding house, who had been living on the third floor of the building where the materials were found. She has been detained on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms, a serious offence under Spanish law.
After her arrest, she was presented to the judicial authorities and remains in custody as the investigation continues to unfold.
The case is currently under thorough examination by the National Police, who are working to determine the extent of the illegal activities and whether there are any additional people involved.
They are also assessing how the weapons and ammunition accumulated in the property over the period it remained unoccupied.
