A 66-year-old man is in a critical condition after his car flipped over in a serious crash in La Ampuyenta, near Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura.
The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert just after 9:20am this morning, Friday, and dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the location given.
Firefighters were the first to arrive and secured the overturned vehicle, while paramedics stabilised the injured man so that they could immediately take him to Fuerteventura General Hospital in Puerto Rosario, where he was admitted in a critical condition.
The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation to determine what caused the car to lose control and overturn.
This isn’t the first serious accident in the area. In March, two people were injured when a car rolled down a ravine near Montaña Roja in La Oliva. The following month, six people were hurt when a vehicle carrying seven passengers overturned on a dangerous dirt track between Piedra Playa and Esquinzo.
Residents have repeatedly warned about poor road conditions and a lack of proper signage on rural routes across Fuerteventura.
