Port Agents of the Guardia Civil have arrested a 49-year-old man at Playa Blanca port in Lanzarote, after finding 65.2 kg of hashish inside his vehicle. They caught him whilst carrying out inspections and verification of passengers, luggage and means of transport, at the departure point of the commercial dock for ferries bound for Corralejo, in Fuerteventura.
As a result of the police training that the Guardia Civil undergoes to identify drug traffickers and smugglers in the war against drugs, officers identified the driver of a van, who they believed was showing signs of nervousness in the presence of the police, as someone to question.
After inspecting his documentation and looking inside the vehicle, officers spotted several reusable boxes in the back which had been sealed, and the driver claimed not to know what was inside them. For this reason, they decided to inspect further and opened them up, finding 64 wrapped packages inside that looked like narcotic substances.
After testing it and verifying that it was hashish, the driver was arrested and charged accordingly for transporting a total of 65.2kg of illegal drugs, and was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities at the Arrecife Courts, which ordered his immediate admission to prison.
