A huge fire has broken out at a car scrapyard in the Las Andoriñas Industrial Estate, in Las Chafiras in the south of Tenerife, sending thick columns of smoke across the TF-1 motorway, potentially caused by explosions of vehicles in the scrapyard.
Firefighters are already on the scene, working to control the blaze, and Guardia Civil traffic police are controlling traffic around the area.
The extent of the fire is currently unknown, but it appears to involve only material damage, however, the thick smoke generated by the fire has caused tailbacks on the TF-1, causing concern among drivers on the motorway this afternoon, although the wind has changed direction meaning the smoke is currently in the opposite direction.
People are advised to exercise maximum caution if planning to travel through the area whilst the fire is still burning and the smoke is still potentially obscuring visibility.
