Hotels in Lanzarote see largest revenue growth per room in Spain's coastal destinations

Hotels in Lanzarote have emerged as the fastest-growing in terms of revenue per available room (RevPAR) among 728 sun and beach destinations in Spain over the last five years.

While they rank fifth overall in terms of revenue generated per night, the island's hotels have achieved a remarkable increase in profitability since 2019.

According to the latest study conducted by Exceltur, a prominent tourism association representing major hotel groups in Spain, hotel rooms in Lanzarote have seen a revenue growth of 50.9%, reaching an average of €118.48 per room. This substantial increase highlights the island's appeal as a holiday destination and reflects a shift in the tourism landscape.

The report evaluates the growth in hotel revenue across various coastal locations in Spain. It indicates that while Lanzarote has excelled in increasing its revenue, there are still four other sun and beach destinations in Spain that generate higher earnings per room.

Leading the list is Ibiza, which reported a RevPAR of €152.98 in 2024, a 45.8% increase since 2019. Following closely is the coast of Barcelona, where hotels achieved an average of €138.38 per room, representing a growth of 30.6% over the same period.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are ranked third and fourth, respectively, with figures not far ahead of Lanzarote. In Tenerife, hotel revenues reached €120.93 per room last year, reflecting a 40.9% increase since 2019. Meanwhile, Gran Canaria's hotels recorded an average of €120.71 per room, with a growth rate of 40.4% over the five-year span.

The findings show the competitive nature of the Spanish tourism market, with Lanzarote positioning itself as a key player due to its significant revenue growth despite not being the highest earner per room. As the tourism sector continues to evolve, Lanzarote's ability to enhance its profitability will be crucial in attracting visitors and sustaining its economic vitality.
