The Canary Islands will continue to experience high temperatures today, Thursday, with the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecasting highs of around 30°C in the southern and western areas of the islands, and local highs of up to 34°C in Gran Canaria.
Skies will be generally partly cloudy, with some cloudy intervals expected along the northern coasts of the mountainous islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Winds will predominantly come from the northeast at moderate strength, occasionally stronger along the southeast and northwest slopes of these islands.
At sea, conditions will be rough to very rough, with north or northeast winds (force 5 to 6), strong swell, and northeasterly waves of 1 to 2 metres.
Island Forecasts:
LANZAROTE
Skies will be mostly clear or partly cloudy, with some cloud along the northwest coast in the early morning and late evening. Temperatures will remain stable, with Arrecife ranging between 22°C and 29°C. Moderate northeasterly winds may strengthen inland.
FUERTEVENTURA
Mostly clear skies are expected. Temperatures will hold steady or rise slightly in the east, with inland areas of the south exceeding 30°C. Winds will blow moderately from the northeast, strengthening inland, around Jandía, and along the west coast. Puerto del Rosario will see 22°C to 28°C.
GRAN CANARIA
Conditions will be mostly clear, though some cloud is expected on the northern coast. Temperatures will reach 30°C in south- and west-facing midlands, with possible local highs of 34°C (98°F). Moderate northeasterly winds will prevail, becoming strong in low-lying areas of the southeast and far west, while summit areas will experience light, variable breezes. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is forecast to be 23°C to 27°C.
TENERIFE
The island will see clear to partly cloudy skies, with some cloud on the northern coast. Temperatures will stay stable, though south-facing midlands and parts of the metropolitan area could still reach 30°C. Northeasterly winds will be moderate, with strong spells along the southeast and far west coasts. In higher areas, winds will turn moderate southwesterly. Santa Cruz de Tenerife can expect 23°C to 31°C.
Advice for Residents and Tourists
With temperatures remaining high and the sea expected to be rough, both locals and visitors are advised to take extra care:
- Stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day (12:00–4:00pm).
- Use sun protection even when skies are hazy or partly cloudy, as UV levels remain strong.
- Be cautious at beaches, especially on the north and west coasts, where rough seas and strong currents may make swimming dangerous. Always follow lifeguard warnings and flag systems.
- Drivers should be aware that strong winds may affect high and exposed roads, particularly on the larger islands.
