The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has confirmed that the intense heat affecting the Canary Islands over the last few days will begin to ease progressively today, Saturday. However, high temperatures of up to 34°C are still expected across parts of the archipelago, along with lingering calima, although dust levels should start to reduce in some areas.
Yellow weather warnings extended
AEMET has extended yellow alerts across all of the islands, with general temperatures forecast to reach 34°C in Tenerife and the western islands, compared to 32°C in Gran Canaria and the eastern islands. Night-time lows will remain warm, with minimums of 25°C and 24°C respectively.
Moderate northerly winds are forecast across the islands, with occasional strong gusts in exposed areas. At sea, northerly winds will also dominate, ranging from force 3 to 5, occasionally reaching force 6, accompanied by moderate seas and a west to southwest swell of 1–2 metres.
