Haria Council wants new regulations to limit buggies

The Haría Council is taking a stand against the increasing number of buggies in the area and the consequential damage they inflict on the local landscape and environment. To address this concern, a proposal has been presented to the political parties urging the regulation of their use to protect and preserve the municipality.

The motion highlights the negative effects caused by the growing number of buggies on local roads and tracks, primarily intended for tourist use. The council expresses concern over the environmental harm these vehicles inflict, particularly during sensitive periods such as the nesting season.

They emphasise that they traverse the municipality without due consideration for the resulting environmental damage, including physical alterations to the land, erosion, and the creation or modification of trails.

In a statement, the council draws attention to the negative impact of the convoy-style movement of these vehicles, generating unnecessary dust that not only affects the environment but also harms vegetation along local roads.

The proposed regulation is intended to apply exclusively to unprotected spaces, as traffic is already prohibited in protected areas. The council is calling on the parties to endorse the motion at the next Plenary Session, to pass the regulations as soon as possible.
