Ferry passenger arrested in Gran Canaria carrying 315 grams of heroin

The Guardia Civil have arrested a 47-year-old man at the Puerto de la Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, for carrying 315 grams of heroin hidden in his clothing when he was about to board a ferry bound for Fuerteventura.

Officers of the SVA (Customs Surveillance Service) for the control of vehicles, passengers, and their respective luggage, have been focused on the prevention of illicit activities related to drug smuggling by intensifying searches and surveillance leading up to Holy Week (Easter).

During the search of a random selection of foot passengers, officers, given their experience in this type of operation, were especially struck by the suspicious attitude of one passenger and carried out a superficial search of his belongings, finding an oval-shaped bundle wrapped in green plastic hidden among his clothing that contained a brown, powdery substance, which after being tested, was proven to be heroin.

Following this, the man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking before being detained and passed to the judicial authorities to await trial at the Court of Instruction of Las Palmas.

The confiscated heroin weighed 315 grams and has an approximate street value of 50,000 euros.
