The National Police have dismantled a drug distribution point in south Tenerife that was operating under the cover of a supposed “non-profit social club”, but in reality, functioned as an active hub for selling drugs, mainly targeting holidaymakers.

The investigation began in January at the Fañabé Plaza Shopping Centre in Costa Adeje, after local business owners filed numerous complaints about the activity of several cannabis associations in the area. Police subsequently set up surveillance operations around the complex to monitor the suspected premises.

Raids uncover indoor cannabis plantation

Following weeks of investigation, officers carried out two simultaneous searches on 12th February — one at the club under investigation and another at a private property being used as an indoor cannabis plantation.

The operation also involved the Adeje Local Police canine unit, which specialises in the detection of drugs and cash.

At the same time, Adeje Local Police conducted an administrative inspection of the premises, identifying several irregularities that resulted in official reports being filed over the violations discovered.

Investigators also found evidence that the suspects had used front men (straw owners) to officially manage the association, allowing them to conceal their direct involvement in the illegal activity.

Five arrests and drugs seized

The operation resulted in the arrest of five people suspected of drug trafficking and belonging to an illegal association.

Officers seized a significant quantity of drugs and related items, including:

  • 2.14kg of marijuana
  • 379.8g of hashish
  • 62.8g of hashish pollen
  • 176.8g of rosin and 6g of rosin powder
  • 36 THC cigarettes
  • 81 cannabis plants
  • More than 50 THC-infused food products
  • €2,825 in cash
  • A luxury watch valued at €12,000
  • Indoor cultivation equipment such as lamps, growing structures and specialised tools.

Premises closed by court order

As a result of the investigation, a judge authorised the closure and sealing of the premises.

Police confirmed that this is now the sixth establishment shut down by court order since October, highlighting what authorities describe as their ongoing commitment to tackling drug trafficking in Tenerife, particularly operations aimed at tourists.
