Creator of ‘Breaking Bad’ is filming new series in the Canary Islands

The municipality of Tazacorte in La Palma has been selected by Vince Gilligan, the acclaimed director and creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, as the filming location for his new series, Wycaro, set to premiere on Apple TV.

Filming took place this week on Tuesday and Wednesday with “No Parking, No Stopping, and No Standing” signs installed on several streets within the town. Additionally, access to the LP-2 highway was restricted for these two days to accommodate production.

Vince Gilligan, a two-time Emmy Award winner, has already completed filming the first five episodes of Wycaro in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While the total number of episodes per season and their exact duration remain undisclosed, industry insiders speculate that the production cost per episode could reach up to $15 million.

With Wycaro, Gilligan is taking a significant turn in his career by moving away from the criminal drama genre to science fiction. This new venture marks a radical departure from his previous work, showcasing his versatility as a storyteller.

Confirmed to star in the new series is Rhea Seehorn, best known for her role as Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul. Her involvement adds significant anticipation and excitement among fans and critics alike, given her strong performances in previous projects. Alongside her is Karolina Wydra, best known for her roles in House and True Blood.

The local government of Tazacorte is actively collaborating with the production team to ensure minimal disruption to the community while supporting this high-profile project. The installation of traffic signs and temporary street closures underscores the municipality’s commitment to facilitating the smooth progress of filming activities.

As Wycaro gears up for its debut on Apple TV, the Canary Islands, particularly La Palma, are set to get international attention. This project not only highlights the scenic beauty and versatility of the Canary Islands as a filming location but also highlights the region’s growing appeal to major film and television productions.
