After days of haze and heat, the Canary Islands will see a slight drop in temperatures today, Monday, although some areas could still reach 30°C, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
The recent calima is set to clear, giving way to cloudier skies across much of the archipelago, while southern areas are expected to remain mostly clear throughout the day.
Forecasts suggest a high of 28°C in Tenerife and the western islands (low of 23°C) and 26°C in Gran Canaria and the eastern islands (low of 22°C). Winds from the northeast will be generally moderate, but could become strong along southeastern and northwestern coasts.
At sea, northeast winds of force 3 to 4 are expected, rising to force 5 or 6 in some areas later in the day, with slight to moderate seas becoming rough by evening, and a north swell of 1–2 metres.
Island forecasts:
- Lanzarote: Cloudy skies in the north at the start and end of the day, clearer in the south. Highs around 28°C.
- Fuerteventura: Generally clear in the south with some cloud elsewhere. Highs around 26°C in Puerto del Rosario, but up to 30°C locally inland.
- Gran Canaria: Cloudy in the north with a chance of light showers; sunnier in the south and west, where highs could touch 30°C. General temperatures between 22°C and 26°C.
- Tenerife: Cloudy in the north with the possibility of light showers in the northeast highlands. Clearer in the south and west, where highs may also reach 30°C in the midlands. General temperatures between 23°C and 28°C.
The general trend points to slightly cooler conditions, but still warm, with the return of more typical September trade wind weather.
