The Canary Islands will see a shift in weather conditions today, Monday, with cloudier skies and the likelihood of light, occasional showers in several areas, particularly over the larger and more mountainous islands.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the most unsettled weather will affect northern slopes and mid-altitude zones, with brighter spells breaking through as the day progresses. Elsewhere, conditions will remain largely settled, with long periods of sunshine and only some afternoon cloud.

Out at sea, conditions will be affected by the strengthening trade winds. Along the southeast and western coasts, northeast winds will reach force 5 to 6, producing rough seas, while northern coasts will be calmer with winds easing to force 3 to 5 and moderate seas.

A northwesterly swell of between one and 2.5 metres is expected along the southwest coast, while elsewhere seas will vary between slight and moderate.

LANZAROTE
Skies will be partly cloudy in the morning, with clearer intervals opening up during the afternoon. The chance of rain is very low, and any precipitation would be light and scattered. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady overnight, while maximum temperatures may drop slightly, especially in the eastern side of the island.

The trade winds will blow from the northeast with locally strong gusts, particularly in exposed areas. Temperatures will range between 22°C overnight and 26°C during the day.

FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura will experience a similar outlook, beginning with intervals of cloud before skies clear as the day goes on. The risk of showers is minimal, though not entirely ruled out in the early part of the day. Night-time temperatures will remain unchanged, while daytime highs are set to fall a little, especially in the east of the island.

Northeasterly winds will predominate, with occasional strong gusts on exposed slopes and ridges. Temperatures are forecast for a low of 21°C and a high of 26°C.

GRAN CANARIA
Cloud will be more widespread in the north, where light, occasional showers are expected in mid-altitude areas both early in the morning and later in the evening. The south of the island will be brighter, with sunnier skies, though maximum temperatures will still be slightly lower than in recent days, with the decrease most noticeable across southern districts. Minimum temperatures will remain steady overnight.

Northeasterly winds will blow moderately, strengthening at times on southeast and northwest slopes, while gentler sea breezes will dominate along the southwest coast. Temperatures are forecast to range from 22°C to 26°C.

TENERIFE
The east of the island will enjoy clearer skies for much of the day, while the north will be cloudier, with weak and occasional showers possible at mid-altitudes early in the morning and again late in the day. Daytime temperatures will ease back slightly, particularly inland, while coastal areas will be less affected by the cooling trend. Overnight minimums will remain stable.

Winds from the northeast will blow with moderate strength, occasionally stronger on southeast and far northwest slopes, while lighter breezes will dominate along the southwest coast. In the central peaks, winds will generally be light but may increase locally. Temperatures are forecast at 23°C overnight and a daytime maximum of 28°C.
