A car caught fire yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) in the centre of Adeje in the south of Tenerife, and local residents quickly sprang into action to try and control the blaze until the fire brigade arrived.
The incident, involving a Ford Kuga SUV, took place on Calle Hermano Pedro in the centre of the town where it was parked in front of shops. Seeing smoke billowing from the car, residents grabbed fire extinguishers and started to battle the flames.
When firefighters got there, they took over and quickly extinguished the fire and secured the vehicle so the area was safe for pedestrians and vehicles to pass through.
The Local Police have confirmed that there are no reports of injuries related to the incident, and that the cause of the fire remains unclear which is being investigated.
The swift response by the community helped prevent a much worse situation and they have been praised by the emergency services for their actions.
