August ends with rain in the Canaries – here’s the forecast for the next few days
The weather in the Canary Islands has shifted noticeably as August draws to a close. The trade winds have finally cleared away the haze (calima) that lingered for several weeks, and showers have returned to the northern slopes of the islands, bringing some welcome freshness to Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria in particular.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), light rain will continue at least until the weekend, although it won’t be widespread or heavy. Temperatures, however, are expected to remain fairly warm.

Cloudy in the north of Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria with possible light morning showers, clearer later. Sunny in the south and in the eastern islands. Northeasterly winds, sometimes strong in exposed areas.

- Gran Canaria, Lanzarote & Fuerteventura: low of 22°C and high of 25°C

Friday
Similar conditions: cloudy in the north of the mountainous islands with the chance of weak showers, clearer during the day, and sunnier in the south and in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Winds moderate to strong from the northeast.
- Tenerife: low of 23°C and high of 28°C
- Gran Canaria, Lanzarote & Fuerteventura: low of 22°C and high of 27°C
For those on holiday, expect a mix of cloud, sunshine, and light showers – especially if you’re staying in the north of Tenerife, La Palma or Gran Canaria. Resorts in the south of the islands should remain mostly dry and warm, with plenty of sunshine breaking through.
So, while the end of August brings a slight change in weather, it’s still perfect for enjoying the beaches, outdoor activities, and the island’s warm evenings.
