The Canary Islands are bracing for a sweltering Friday with temperatures expected to reach 37°C with the presence of a slight haze, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). This intense heatwave has prompted the Canary Islands government to issue a forest fire alert for five islands and a heat alert for Gran Canaria.
AEMET are forecasting maximum temperatures of 37°C in the midlands and peaks of southern Gran Canaria, and 34°C in the interior of the eastern islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura), as well as in the south and peaks of Tenerife.
The weather will be predominantly clear with a few clouds in the low northern areas of the mountainous islands during the early hours and some mid-level clouds in the afternoon. Morning mist is possible in the northwest of Lanzarote and the west of Fuerteventura. A slight haze is expected, particularly in the eastern islands.
Temperatures are expected to rise significantly, especially in the peaks and slopes of the southern and western mountainous regions, and could reach up to 38°C in the southern midlands and peaks of Gran Canaria.
Trade winds will prevail, with occasional strong gusts in the low areas of the southeast and northwest, with breezes along the southwestern coasts. Sea conditions will range from moderate to rough, with a swell from the north around 1 metre high.

Minimum temperatures will remain steady or slightly rise, while maximum temperatures will also rise, potentially reaching 34°C in the interior and southern areas.
