A new report on Spain’s favourite beer brands has confirmed what most locals already know: when it comes to choosing a pint, the Canary Islands are loyal to their own. While most regions of Spain favour big national names like Estrella Galicia, Mahou, or Alhambra, Canarians have once again picked Dorada as their top choice.
The study, carried out by Accumin Intelligence, analysed consumer preferences across the country and found that the islands continue to stand out for their strong loyalty to locally made products. In a market increasingly dominated by national and international labels, Dorada has managed to hold its place thanks to its deep cultural roots and long-standing connection to island life.
The report points out that for many Canarians, their beer of choice is more than just a drink; it’s a reflection of local identity, pride, and tradition. Dorada’s link with the islands’ relaxed lifestyle and warm social culture has made it an enduring favourite among both residents and visitors.
Interestingly, the study did not include any other Canarian beers in its top regional rankings, with Dorada standing alone as the leading brand across the islands. This just goes to show its dominance in the local market, even against long-time competitor Tropical, which remains popular in Gran Canaria but didn’t feature in this year’s national results.
The study also points to a growing trend across Spain towards low-alcohol and alcohol-free beers, particularly among younger people and the more health-conscious. In the Canary Islands, where hospitality and tourism play a major role, this shift has been especially noticeable in recent years, with brewers introducing new, lighter options to meet changing tastes.
Even so, Dorada continues to dominate the market across the islands, proving that when it comes to beer, Canarians know exactly what they like, and they’re sticking with it.
