3.4 magnitude earthquake recorded at Enmedio Volcano between Tenerife and Gran Canaria

The underwater channel between the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria continues to experience seismic activity. In recent hours, two earthquakes have stood out, with magnitudes of 3.4 and 2.3 on the Richter scale, respectively.

According to data fromthe  National Geographic Institute (IGN), 11 earthquakes have been detected in this area, known as the Enmedio volcano, over the past three days, since 16th June.

The strongest tremor, with a magnitude of 3.4, occurred at 10:38am this morning (Thursday) at a depth of 23 kilometres. The 2.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 10:14pm last night (Wednesday) at a depth of just five kilometres below the surface.

The other tremors registered magnitudes above 1.4 mbLg, with depths ranging from 1 to 21 kilometres.

This region is known for its frequent seismic activity, and occasionally, the tremors are strong enough to be felt by residents in the eastern municipalities of Tenerife and the western parts of Gran Canaria.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, though no significant damage or injuries have been reported.
